About

Ani Hoover is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, drawing, textile processes, assemblage, and object‑based sculpture. Over the past two decades, she has developed a wide-ranging practice rooted in material exploration, repetition, and the transformation of everyday objects. Her work has been exhibited extensively across the United States in solo, two‑person, and group exhibitions.

Hoover’s solo exhibitions include presentations at Dome Art Advisory (2025), the Albrecht‑Kemper Museum of Art (2023), the Burchfield Penney Art Center (2020), KOA Art Gallery at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford (2019), Linda Matney Fine Art (2019), ArtPark (2017), Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center (2014), and the Castellani Art Museum (2006), among many others. Her work has also appeared in two‑ and three‑person exhibitions at venues such as Honfleur Gallery in Washington, DC (2017), Flanders Art Gallery in Raleigh, NC (2011), and Alfred University (2009).

She has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including recurring selections for Art in the Craft Media at the Burchfield Penney Art Center (2011, 2015, 2017, 2019), the 66th Finger Lakes Exhibition at the Memorial Art Gallery (2019), Beyond/In Western New York at the Albright‑Knox Art Gallery (2007), and invitational shows at Gallery Joe in Philadelphia (2009), Echo NYC (2016), and the Guapamacataro Center for Art and Ecology in Michoacan, Mexico (2014).

Hoover’s work has been recognized with grants, fellowships, and awards from the Albright‑Knox Art Gallery (2020), the Burchfield Penney Art Center (2019), the Memorial Art Gallery (2019), Haystack Mountain School of Craft (2017), and multiple New York Foundation for the Arts Special Opportunity Stipends (2004–2012). She has completed residencies at StudioWorks/Tides Institute (2017), Haystack Mountain School of Craft (2012, 2013, 2015, 2017), and the Guapamacataro Center for Art and Ecology (2014).

Her work is held in the collections of the Albright‑Knox Art Gallery, the Burchfield Penney Art Center, the University at Buffalo, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, M&T Bank, First Niagara Bank, Delaware North, and numerous private collections.

Hoover earned her MFA in Painting from American University (magna cum laude), her BFA in Painting from Missouri State University (cum laude), and studied K–12 Art at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.
